A So-So Sort of Day, With a Bonus Very Scary – and Hairy – Spider

I started my day with a cinnamon scone and a cup of coffee. Delicious but probably not the best way to get my body going. For lunch, I had three sardines with Triscuits (*not* the best cracker for enjoying sardines but I just ran out of my gluten-free Trader Joe’s crackers, bummer) for a massive dose of omega-3’s! I was still hungry so I had a bowl of stuffed cabbage soup. Then I realized I had overeaten. Ugh. For an afternoon snack, I had an apple.

^^ FAIL. Sugar and caffeine for breakfast. A huge lunch with tons of protein, but too much at once. Then a teeny tiny snack.

I need to make sure I start my day with protein, not sugar.  I’m going to try to limit sugary desserts to after dinner, and keep my daytime snacks full of protein.

For dinner, I made Teriyaki Chicken from Double Delicious!  It’s basically baked chicken with a teriyaki sauce made of soy sauce, brown sugar, green onion, ginger, garlic, and that sneaky sweet potato puree (the recipe called for carrot puree but I didn’t have any). It was super yum. Husband really liked it, so I will definitely be making this again.

Tomorrow I plan to have eggs for breakfast, nuts and raw veggies for snacks, and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner. (I have to tell myself this ahead of time so that it actually happens.)

On a completely non-food-related note, check out the spider that Husband found at the door to our garage.

Do not keep reading unless you are totally cool looking at ginormous hairy spiders…

Tarantulas are scared of this spider…

You sure???

If you’re wondering if he’s dead, indeed he is. We’re not sure exactly how he met his demise, but it would appear he was stepped on. I am haunted by the realization that it may have been me — or worse, my kid — that stepped on him. <- not because I’m so sad about him being squished but just knowing I was that close to a spider that could clearly eat me alive.
So, my husband found him on the door mat at the door into our house from our garage. We have identified him as a wolf spider, based on his size and hairiness, and some image searching on Teh Googs.
I have to admit, I’m a little bit jumpy now. I keep thinking I feel spiders crawling on me, or I see something out of the corner of my eye and am convinced it is the rest of his family coming to get revenge. I keep imagining that he has a family. In some of these visions, I picture him with a brood of his little babies following behind. In some of the visions, he *is* one of the babies.  Shudder.
Allie is right. Spiders are scary.
